Hello Everyone!!! Just thought I'd share a few examples of "Apple Butter in Art". It doesn't surprise me that this long-cherished tradition would inspire so many to start dipping their brushes into the warm, rich colors of autumn.
Stay tuned for "Apple Butter in Verse".

In this painting by "local" artist Pat Saunders, you can see that this family has turned making apple butter into quite a production. Notice the number of people milling about -- a large congregation of friends and family. Seems familiar, doesn't it?. In contrast, this painting depicts the process as a small family chore -- and I sure do feel sorry for that Mom. And why is that little girl standing so close to the pot??? And why is that boy bringing un-schnitzed apples??? This is an apple butter disaster waiting to happen!!!!

In this painting by Grandma Moses, you can see that the kettle and paddle look pretty much just like what we use. I wonder what those two ladies are talking about.

The Jars Have Arrived !

Yesterday was Evie's 2nd birthday and we had family in to help celebrate.
Jim and Lynette took the opportunity to bring the apple butter jars down.

42 days to go!!! Here is a picture we took last year as we were leaving Dickie Bros. Orchard with a car full of apples. It was a beautiful day and by the time we arrived at their door, we were truly in the middle of nowhere. We'll be making the trip again soon (probably the first weekend in October), but there's no telling yet what kind of apples are going to be available. We'll have to wait and see what the dry summer will leave us.

Hey Everyone! We're getting close (47 days to go!). Stay tuned for upcoming information.

Remember, the date has been set for October 11, 2008. We hope to see you all here bright and early. The summer has been pretty dry so we might have an early finish time like we did last year, but we won't know until we start schnitzing the apples.

Check back soon.
